Gelatissimo
Random musing – Has anyone else noticed how the “Temporary Gelatissimo” stand at Circular Quay has been anything but temporary? My guess is that they were only expecting to be in operation through Summer, and were surprised when a healthy rate of business continued throughout Autumn and Winter. It’s an excellent place for an ice cream stand with all those tourists milling past, wondering how it can be so warm and sunny on a Winter’s day. A prime location, even though it’s essentially a shack under a highway overpass.
yeh i hope it stays there :) that was the first ever gelatissimo I went to and boy its yummy and its good when you want have something after dinner to eat at night when ur at the area and don’t want to get ripped off by places on the quay
they were giving away free ice cream at gelatissimo at chinatown that day!
Gelatissimo is mass market McDonald’s ice-cream. The quality is shit. Give me Pompei’s at Bondi anytime.
Gelatissimo on King St were giving away freebies on the 11th too, for their one year anniversary. maybe china town opened same day?
As for quality, Gelatissimo are not the greatest, but they’re still tasty, and handy. They’ll do in a pinch.
Postscript: the greatest (i’ve found) would be bar italia in Leichhardt.
hmm. bar italia want to try that now.
:)
aw now i just want to eat ice cream. :)
My first experience at Gelatissimo reminded me exactly of a warm summers day strolling through the streets of florence.Anyone that knows their Gelato, will not despute that it is the furthest thing from “MASS MARKET McDONALDS ICE CREAM” learn your gelato quality ‘rodent’ i think what the Gelatissimo’s doing is fantastic, finally they are giving sydney a taste of what Italy is really made of, and they are doing it in a big way!
Jeff,
I too have had the pleasure of strolling through Firenze’s streets. However, this does not mean one is a gelato connoisseur. I am actually from a blue-blooded gelato family. When Gelatissimo first opened I was quite happy that there was gelato in Sydney, however since then the quality has been significantly eroded to the extent that mass market McD’s icecream is a fitting characterisation. You obviously haven’t tried Pompeii in Bondi or Bar Italia in Leichhardt.
Rodent,
I know Bar Italia and Pompeii well. Let me say that Pompeii is good gelato, but it is made fresh daily on the premises, and anyone that knows gelato will tell you that a fresh product should always be decent. Bar Italia?? Please! The gelato is so-so to say the least; I think the only attraction to that place is the fact that it is an icon and it is in Leichhardt. Give me Pompeii in Bondi or Bravo in Crows Nest or Gelatissimo any day! I think you must have jealousy issues given your gelato background and given the obvious success of gelatissimo!!
Jeff,
You’re an idiot.
