Enterprise
Well, Enterprise has hit the screens in the States. Anyone watch it? How was it?

Well with all the talk of nostradamus I thought I’d throw in a plug for the omniscient william henry gates III…instructions below:
Go into Word. On a blank page type NYC and make it as big as you can. Now highlight the 3 letters and change the font to Webdings. Read the symbols (weird or what) Now highlight the symbols again and change the font to Wingdings.
Sinister. (Thanks to Don)
Just an informative map showing the distribution of muslims throughout the world (as at 1995). Another point of curiousity is that the ratio of Muslims to Christians in the world is roughly 2:3.
The Ornery American makes a well argued, albeit over-extreme, viewpoint of how to respond to the September 11 attack.
In reality, however, it will take more “reinforcement” to obtain unity within the American public that the author says is requrired to take such an action – that is, further terrorist attacks. The September 11 attack was significant, but the American public still has a measure of faith in their security (especially with the heightened state of alertness the nation is in). Only when that faith fails, will there be enough momentum behind a large scale war. Let’s hope it doesn’t get to that stage, however.
A point that the author perhaps neglects to mention is that all out war could send the Islamic community psychotic. Conventional war and “rules of engagement” could quickly got out the window. These fanatics would rather die than see their land be subjugated. If pushed, and they turn to bioweapons, or (if they have the capability), nuclear devices – and then what is the world to do?
This extra article answers those people who believe in a pacifist response (that is, no response at all).
If you delve into things a bit further, the writer of the articles turns out to be OSC. If you have read Ender’s Game, you’ll realise the similarities of the site to the things in his book (to do with Locke and Demosthenes).
Y’know, Slashdot’s forums are very reminiscent of the forums of “The Nets” in Orson Scott Card’s Ender’s Game. Lots of links and commentary from Slashdot here. All CNN coverage here. Time eyewitness accounts. Photos from Brooklyn. Obviously when disasters like this happen, people scour the prophecies looking for correlations. I’ve seen Nostradamus’ “Two brothers torn apart by Chaos” prophecy circulating around (dodgy hoax). The NY Times have a few multimedia and interactive features on their site. A few bits of irreverent “humour” have cropped up around the place too (as can be expected): 1 {src: Fuzzy} 2 {src: Solo}and there’s a “all your base” spoof I’ve seen too.
It’s like it was a movie, but not. If you haven’t heard about it by now, you will soon. It’s being declared everywhere that the US is “under attack” by terrorists who have crashed commercial airliners into the World Trade Centre and Pentagon. It’s being covered everywhere (tv, radio, etc) but for a starting point online, try the usual CNN. I wonder what the repercussions for the rest of the world will be… At least it wasn’t a nuke they set off.
Dot-Commers Trade Options for Books. What happens when those who left uni to join or start up a .com find themselves out of a job because their company has gone bust? They go back to uni of course.
I knew there must’ve been a page like this somewhere on the net. I’m sure you’ve seen pen spinning before in lecture theatres or classrooms. The Japanese call it “rohnin mawashi” and for some reason fiddling this way with pens is more prevalent amongst Asians. Anyhow, this site has video footage of all the various tricks of turning your pen into a baton. I can do some of them, but some are just freakish like the super harmonic which unfortunately has no video.
